Dan Ellis's Photographic Art
Dan writes:-
"In the 1970's and early '80's, I began to experiment with photographic
art as a hobby, both in black and white and in color. I was interested in exploring
just how to capture an image that had a special magic, an appeal to my
sense of rightness of form and shade and color and beauty. I evolved a technique of
lighting the subject (flowers for the most part), that left the background
black. I processed my film and hand-made my prints in a small home darkroom,
using Agfa color slide film and Ilford black and white film. Color prints
were made on Cibachrome, which has pure azo dyes, meaning that prints made 30
years ago are as fresh in color today as when they were first made. Many prints were
bought by interior designers, and by architects for use in buildings. An
art gallery staged a successful exhibition in Brisbane, Australia.
Eventually, as my work in a quite different field became more and more
demanding, I had less and less time to spare for my photographic art hobby, and
reluctantly abandoned it."
